Welcome to Travistrek IV for 2007. The Pennine Way, The Voyage Home.

Travistrek.co.uk was initiated in 2003 by Scott Cunningham who is totally blind. Amazingly, he has now trekked the 3 main long distance walks in Scotland with his super-fit Guide Dog Travis.

With Scotland under their belt, the dynamic duo are now looking further afield, and will this year tackle all 268 miles of The Pennine Way. They will cross the border from England back home to Scotland in 16 continuous walking days starting on the 10th of May 2007. This national trail is continually considered to be one of Britain’s most challenging long distance walks.

Scott's objective through travistrek.co.uk is twofold: he aims to raise much needed funds for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association (GDBA), and also hopefully inspire other blind people to embrace challenges, big or small and experience the same sense of motivation and rewards that he has gained from his expeditions. Now in its 4th extremely successful year, travistrek.co.uk has raised over £40,000 for the GDBA to date.

The money raised so far has been used to fully train and care for 7 Guide Dog puppies that will eventually be placed with new owners. With your continued support this year, we hope to raise even more and enable more visually-impaired people to lead full and active lives. You CAN make a difference!

There are many ways to help Scott & Travis with this years venture.

The GDBA obviously need funds so yes, you guessed it, we do need money first and foremost and you can donate directly through Paypal or even buying an advert space for a set £25 so that your company logo/product/message displays right here on the front page however, we realise that isn't always an option for every single visitor that pays us a visit.

  • At various times, the team hold special days where they collect money simply by shaking cans. Last year for example, the team stood outside Firhill park when Glasgow Rugby played Ulster. There will be more this year. Maybe you could make one? Keep checking the Trek News Centre for details, dates and venues.
• offer your stock...
  • Maybe you are a company or individual that cannot give money but, have useful stock to offer and help the team. An outdoor company with clothing and gear? An Electronics firm that can offer the team a means of sending daily pictures on the walk with a decent mobile phone, A B&B along the route that can offer a free stay? A prize for a raffle? Why not bake a cake? Or anything that Travistrek can put on Ebay - you get the picture.

How do we get pictures from the trek, up and onto the site on a daily basis for the duration of the trek?

Well, we'd like to know too. If there is a modern mobile phone or gadget that can take pictures and has internet access through satellite technologies (or similar) we'd really like to know about it. We need to find a way to update the site from the middle of nowhere. Do you have an answer? Can you even donate a phone that can do this on a loan basis for two weeks?
